Why did my dentist send me here?
Oral Radiology Toronto enables digital dentistry
Oral Radiology Toronto’s dental clinic has specialized dental imaging equipment that is not found in every dental office. The procedures we perform are mostly related to 2D and 3D imaging of patients’ jaws.
What kind of treatments do you perform?
Oral radiologists mostly take 2D and 3D xrays and other dental images
Our main service is a type of 3D x-ray called a cone beam CT scan (CBCT scan). We acquire these images and then have one of our board-certified oral radiologists create a report for you, using our unique reporting system. Our reports contain an explanatory image for every single finding, so that the work we do is clear and understandable by everyone.
We also provide large 2D x-rays called panoramic x-rays that help us visualize structures like wisdom teeth.
Why do I need this x-ray? I recently had an x-ray. Why do I need another?
Usually, the reason is that it provides additional information, such as a larger view or 3D view
Oral Radiology Toronto’s equipment is specialized to capture additional details that are not visible in the x-rays typically acquired in many dental offices. Dentists do not generally send a patient to us for a repeat of the same thing. Usually, we will do something different. The machines may look similar, but our machines are going to do something for you that you cannot get at your referring dentist.
How do I prepare for this procedure?
Remove metal from your head and neck, avoid too much make-up, and be on time for your appointment
All jewelry and metal objects (such as partial dentures or dentures with metal substructures) should be removed prior to imaging. Metal in our images reduces the image quality, which may make it harder to diagnose your specific issue.
Limit the amount of make-up you wear such as lipstick, as this can make the process messier.
Also, Oral Radiology Toronto works extremely hard to ensure that your appointment is quick and efficient. We will be on time as long as you are on time. We usually schedule between 15-30 minutes per appointment, but we aim to have your appointment done in 10-15 minutes. This is possible if you fill in as much of the required information prior to arriving.
What is the associated dose and protective equipment?
Relatively low x-ray doses from dental imaging
Dental imaging is not a significant source of radiation. Compared to the CT scans you would receive at a hospital for the same area of your body, a dental CT scan is anywhere from 1/100th to 1/10th of the dose. Oral Radiology Toronto will take the smallest image that we can, which will suitably answer your dentist’s question. We also supply the usual aprons during imaging. All of our machines are frequently refreshed at our clinics, which ensures that your imaging is performed on contemporary low-dose equipment.
What is the situation with dental insurance? What are the insurance codes?
We will give you a pre-filled form that you can submit directly
Our office will help you process any insurance claims and you will be reimbursed by your dental insurance directly. Please bring your dental insurance card to your appointment at Oral Radiology Toronto. If you would like to process your own dental insurance, we can provide you with a pre-filled dental insurance form.
How long will the procedure take?
The average visit takes just 15 minutes.
We usually allocate 15 minutes per appointment, but if you fill out your New Patient Form prior to arrival, you can reduce the amount of interaction you have with us, and speed up your appointment.
How long until my dentist receives the report?
It depends on your dentist’s request for report turnaround.
Normal turnaround time is 10 business days. For rush orders (additional fee of $50), a report will be provided within 2 business days.
How can I contact you if I am having difficulty with booking an appointment?
We’re available online and via phone
If you need help filling in your questions or booking an appointment, you can message us or call us at 289-597-1502, and we’ll get things back on track for you. Please note that it is faster to do it online by yourself, compared to giving us the same answers over the phone.
How do I access my results? How do I send the results to someone?
Speak to your referring dentist for an email copy of your results.
We send the oral radiologist’s report to your original dentist. They will help you in interpreting the results and advise you of next steps.
